Verification email delivery playbook

Not receiving a verification email? Narrow down the issue, step by step

Don’t keep clicking “Resend.” Wait, check the address, and refresh first—then decide whether to retry or switch addresses. This makes it easier to identify where the problem occurs.

Wait 60–90 seconds

Most verification codes arrive quickly, but the sending platform may be processing a queue. Keep this page open and let the inbox check for new messages automatically.

Check the address character by character

Confirm that the website accepted your submission and that the address contains no missing characters, spaces, or outdated information. Copying the current address again is more reliable than typing it manually.

Refresh once manually

Click refresh in the inbox and check for new messages or error notices. Refreshing won’t change the current address or interrupt an email you’re reading.

Retry from the sender’s website

Resend the message only once, then wait again. Repeated clicks may trigger the sender’s rate limit and delay later messages.

Switch addresses only as a last resort

If the sender clearly rejects the address or delivery still hasn’t happened after a long wait, create a new address and submit it again. Switching addresses destroys the old inbox, so first make sure there’s nothing you need to keep.

Troubleshoot by symptom

After waiting, do this based onwhat you see

No email at all

First check the submitted address and the sender’s success message. If messages from other senders also don’t arrive, consider switching addresses.

Email arrived late and the code expired

Return to the sender and request just one new code, then use the newest message. Don’t combine numbers from multiple emails.

The website rejected the address

Some platforms actively block temporary domains. For important accounts, use an email address you control long term instead of repeatedly trying to bypass the restriction.

Avoid creating a second problem

Repeated sends, frequent address changes, and closing the page too soon can make the issue harder to diagnose

Change only one condition at a time and note when each request was made. This helps distinguish sender delays, address-entry mistakes, and genuine delivery failures.

  • Use the most recent request
  • Leave a waiting window between retries
  • Don’t rely on a temporary address for important account recovery
